our terroir

The vast diversity of plant types in the forests and gardens of Nyot Ou is an invaluable natural and cultural heritage. Many of the tea trees are wild or ancient, some have been selected and seed-grown by farmers over generations. The typical monsoon climate of Nyot Ou with its extremes of hot, dry, wet, and cool playing out in contrasting seasons, and the diverse flora and fauna of its forests and tea gardens defined the Nyot Ou teas’ characters: wild, elegant, and refined. >>Learn more about our terroir

our principles

CCL-Web Icons-3

gender inclusion

Everywhere in the world, women are working in tea production, but mostly behind the scenes. As a cooperative, our role is to ensure their place in decision-making processes and to encourage their leadership.

CCL-Web Icons-3

forest & biodiversity preservation

The forest is our habitat, our home, our means of subsistence. By preserving the forest, we make better teas and we perpetuate our way of living in interaction with nature.

agroecology principles

Upland ethnic smallholder farmers have a long history and a large know-how of sustainable agriculture. We draw on that knowledge, and further develop and support the communities with innovative agroecological practices, to make our teas with respect for nature.

smallholder farmer production

So far, the cooperative regroups 72 tea farmers. All of them are independent: they produce tea from their own tea gardens and sell it individually as well as collectively through the cooperative. Smallholder farming is one of the key aspects of a respectful agriculture.

premium quality standards

Forest teas originate from a rich and unique ecosystem. Our work is to maintain and bring out this quality in the dry leaves. All our teas are harvested and processed by hand.

CCL-Web Icons-3

local know-how valorisation

Our communities have ancestral knowledge and very specific know-how of their forest environment. The ability to live and grow in harmony with the ecosystem is part of their identity, and has to be gathered, preserved and transmitted to younger generations.
